TFE Sub Surface - Wet Flies
Usage Position: Wet flies are fished beneath the surface, typically in the middle to upper layers of the water column - between the surface film and 1- 3 ft deep, through they can go deeper with weighed lines or split shot.
Design: Designed to sink slightly below the surface and drift or swing naturally in the current, mimicking insects that are emerging to the surface, drowned or spent adults, or subsurface nymphs and larvae.
Materials: Tied with a heavy wet fly hook, fine thread and soft materials that move naturally underwater. Common parts include a soft fibre tail, a body of floss, dubbing or peacock herl (often ribbed with wire or tinsel) a soft hackle from partridge or hen for life like motion, and a quill or feather wing. The head is finished with thread and varnish and optional bead or lead wire can be added for weight.
Target Fish: Highly effective for Trout and other species that feed on aquatic insects.
